St Catherine's Hill is a 47 hectare chalk grassland nature reserve home to an abundance of wild
SU 483 280. This is a great short walk with views out across the Itchen and Winchester. St Catherine's hill is managed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, as it supports a number of rare flower and butterfly species - although as we went in November neither was visible; instead we got a very inquisitive cow! The route is short but steep.

St. Catherine's Hill is a beautiful place to visit, especially in the summer. There are two walks up to the top, one easier than the other, but once at the top of the steps the view across Winchester city is stunning. Especially at sundown, where the mists shroud the low-lands of the valley. Beneath St. Catherine's is the Itchen navigation.

This is a lovely town and countryside trail taking you from Abbey Gardens, past Wolvesey Castle, Bishop's Palace, through Fallodon Nature Reserve, along the River Itchen, over Saint Catherine's Hill, and returning along the river once more. Enjoy the lovely views over surrounding area and of the historic sites of Winchester. Take care on the rougher sections of this trail, especially in wetter.
